The Yoruba term “SOROSOKE,” which means “SPEAK UP,” has become a catchphrase for Nigeria’s youth.
The #EndSars campaign was a tale of pain but progress because the “SOROSOKE” generation had sworn to do everything in their power to fight oppression in October 2020, the music craze generation made it so loud that Grammy award winning artiste “Burna Boy” made a song about the #EndSars killings in October 2020. Reekado Banks also made a smash hit titled “Ozumba Mbadiwe,” which was named after the highway where the #EndSars protestors were killed.
While we dance to these sounds, we must keep in mind that the tune we dance to in 2023 will be determined by all of our actions going forward. If we are to achieve progress, we must set our differences aside and strive toward a single goal:
Our generation’s shared aspirations will only become a reality if we support people who share those objectives and have the power to make them a reality through leadership.
If we truly want a Nigeria where young people can prosper, we should be more than willing to assist progressive Nigerians like JFK, who have proven their sincerity by establishing groundwork. What can you do to assist Nigeria, is the question. Remember, you’re not just supporting these people, but you’re improving the country by collaborating with progressive Nigerians.
